Two storms are expected in the Tahoe Basin this week and they will likely bring more rain than snow at lake level.

After mostly cloudy, windy conditions and a high temperature above 50 degrees Monday, Tahoe can expect a chance of precipitation in the evening, according to the National Weather Service. The snow level will likely range from 7,500 – 8,000 feet.

In a Sunday morning post, Bryan Allegretto, Tahoe snow forecaster for, described the system as “very weak.”

Precipitation is expected Tuesday, with the snow level ranging from 7,000 – 7,500 feet, according to NWS. In South Lake Tahoe the chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Tahoe will get a brief break from precipitation Wednesday before a slight chance of rain and snow returns in the evening. Snow will be more likely Thursday, when South Lake Tahoe could see a low temperature of 27 degrees.

Allegretto said the heaviest snow should fall Thursday into Thursday night.

“Snow levels start around 8,000 feet but fall during the day Thursday down below lake level by evening,” Allegretto wrote in his post. “We could see several inches of snow at lake level, and 1-2 feet of snow on the mountains.”
