The high country could see up to a foot of snow from another winter storm but don’t expect fresh powder at lake level.

A winter weather advisory will remain in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Above 7,000 feet, the storm could bring 6-12 inches of new snow, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. The largest amounts of snow are expected west of California Route 89.

The heaviest snowfall is expected in the morning. Wind gusts could be as strong as 40 mph on the lake and 90 mph on the Sierra crest.

“Travel could be very difficult,” the weather service warns. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes.”

Accumulation of less than an inch is possible in Incline Village, while South Lake Tahoe can expect even less accumulation — if any at all. There is an 80 percent chance of precipitation Wednesday.

High temperatures at Lake Tahoe will climb toward the mid-40s before dropping down to 30 degrees Wednesday night.

Thursday will mark the start of a string of sunny days at the lake. Mostly or partly sunny conditions are expected through Saturday. High temperatures will reach the mid-40s each day.

A chance of snow will return Sunday, according to the weather service.
