South Lake Tahoe motorcyclist dies in Woodfords junction crash
A 64-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman died in a crash at the intersection of California State routes 88 and 89 near Woodfords Sunday.
The woman, whose identity is being withheld until next of kin is notified, was riding her Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on California Route 88 when she began approaching the intersection with California Route 89, according to California Highway Patrol. She intended to make a left turn onto southbound 89.
At that time, a 58-year-old Gardnerville woman was traveling eastbound on California Route 88 in a Buick LeSabre. She was traveling approximately 50 to 55 mph when she arrived at the intersection about the same time as the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist began making the left-hand turn and entered the path of the approaching Gardnerville woman, who did not have enough time to apply her brakes and avoid a collision, according to CHP.
The motorcyclist was thrown from her bike and landed in the roadway before coming to a rest in the westbound lane of California Route 88. She died from her injuries either in flight to or at Renown Hospital.
The Gardnerville woman sustained minor injuries.
