EAT This Week: Getaway Café’s Beef Dip

To try and decide each week where and what to eat around the basin can be a challenge – there are so many amazing choices. In this feature we’ll dive into dishes that will surely satisfy those hunger pangs and leave you wondering where to go next.

I’m sure as of late you’ve had you fair share of sandwiches – leftover Thanksgiving turkey sandwiches to be exact. But not all sandwiches are created equal and if you’re looking for another option to replace those boring leftovers, this week’s feature has you covered.

As with most offerings at the Getaway Café, the portion is huge. Thin slices of roast beef are piled high inside a freshly baked French roll along with melted jack cheese and crispy onion rings. It’s served with a cup of au jus dipping sauce and a side of French fries.

Anytime you get a sandwich and the cheese is so ooey gooey it’s pouring over the side, you know you’re in for something good. The meat is ultra tender and packed with flavor and when you get the sweet and savory balance from the onion rings (not to mention the textures), it makes this sandwich good enough to eat on its own … but then there’s that au jus.

One dip in the pool and you have to keep yourself from just chugging this down on its own. It’s like an elixir of the gods and when the bread soaks it all in and you take a bite, all that concentrated goodness pours over your tastebuds like a river of flavor.

And don’t sleep on the fries – they are some of the best in the basin. I can understand if you can’t finish them because of the size of the sandwich, but for Pete’s sake take any leftover with you to-go. They’ll definitely be better than what you’ve been eating over the past week.

The Getaway Café is located at 3140 Highway 50 in Meyers. For complete menu offerings and general information visit them online at tahoegetawaycafe.com or reach them by phone at 530-577-5132.
