Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra sponsors Bread & Broth Community Meal
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Bread & Broth (B&B) hosts two free hot meals every week for all community members, providing nutritious and healthy food in a safe and warm environment filled with camaraderie and long-time friendships.
Bread & Broth’s Second Serving meal is held every Friday at the Lake Tahoe Presbyterian Community Church from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. These meals feature a simple entrée made by the B&B cooks and soup provided by local restaurants and casinos.
The Monday Meal takes place at St. Theresa Church’s Grace Hall from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. where dinner guests receive a full-course, hot meal and 2-3 bags of healthy food to take home for meals later in the week. The Monday Meal is funded by generous donations, grants, and B&B’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) program. By contributing $350, AAD sponsors help fund their sponsorship meal and spend three hours volunteering alongside the B&B volunteers setting up the meal and giveaway tables, interacting with the dinner guests, and closing out their sponsorship meal by helping with the meal event’s takedown.
On Monday, January 26th, the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra served as the AAD sponsor for the evening meal. The club is dedicated to supporting the community, particularly children, through programs such as the Child ID Electronic Fingerprinting initiative and their school backpack program. Another signature Kiwanis program is the Aktion Club which encourages adults with disabilities to perform service projects that give them the opportunity to develop and use their talents.
“We are so proud of the Bread & Broth program and what it provides for our community,” said Kelly Escobedo, a Kiwanis member who volunteered at the dinner. “Any chance the Kiwanis members can collaborate, we feel honored.” Joining Kelly at the dinner were fellow club members Richard Dart, Adrian Escobedo, Bonnie Fiegel, and Tom and Cheryl Millham.
With 130 dinner guests attending the meal, the Kiwanis volunteers were busy packing food bags, greeting dinner guests, and serving BBQ chicken drumsticks with sides. Taking a break from the serving line, Bonnie Fiegel shared, “It was a pleasant experience because the diners were very gracious and I like giving back…my life has been blessed, so I volunteer.”
Bread & Broth commends the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra and their members for their positive impact on the community and their support of B&B’s mission of easing hunger. You can support the Kiwanis organization with their upcoming “Meat Raffle” (meat provided by Overland Meat & Seafood Company) on April 18th.
