TAHOE BASIN, Calif./Nev. – After the previous storm cycles brought in more than nine feet of snow in parts of Tahoe, it’s looking like a potentially slushy week as temperatures reach the mid to upper 40’s before Tuesday brings forecasted wind and rain.

Bryan Allegretto, OpenSnow forecaster, says the rain showers will last most of Tuesday and clear out by Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service models are mirroring OpenSnow, showing the high on Tuesday in the greater Lake Tahoe area reaching up to 53 degrees, and that mixed with rain and wind gusts of up to 25 mph, will leave many areas of Tahoe in mucky, icy conditions.

Forecasted discussions from meteorologists said, “Rain over snow will be the main concern across the region, mainly over the Sierra and Northeastern California. Western Nevada will have some rain showers, but not much spillover is expected, with up to 0.25 inches of rain over the Sierra Front through Wednesday afternoon and a 20-45% chance of exceeding that amount.”

Going into mid-week, wind gusts at lake level could reach 45 mph on Wednesday. Lows in the mid-20s to low 30s Wednesday night could indicate icy road conditions, so don’t put your tire chains away just yet.

“Afterwards, drier and warmer conditions are expected late week into the weekend,” said the report.

Allegretto predicts a dry start to March, “but weak systems are possible at times.”

Get ready to trudge through some sludge.
