New details released regarding Oct. 29 fatal crash near Spooner Summit
LAKE TAHOE, Nev. – On October 29, 2025, at approximately 2:37 a.m., the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a report of a crash on eastbound U.S. 50 just east of Spooner Summit in Douglas County.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling eastbound on U.S. 50. The Silverado was allowed to leave the eastbound travel lanes and run off the right side of the roadway, entering the right paved shoulder and chain up area of the highway.
The Silverado’s front struck the concrete barrier wall and the Silverado spun counterclockwise, overturned, and was directed across the eastbound travel lanes of U.S. 50. The Silverado then struck the eastbound inside shoulder concrete barrier and came to a stop.
William Barkdoll, a 20-year-old male from Gardnerville, Nevada, was pronounced dead on scene by medical personal.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating this crash.
2025 Year to date: The Nevada Highway Patrol Region Two has investigated 33 fatal crashes, resulting in 35 fatalities. 2025 fatalities data is preliminary and may change/be updated based on final investigation and coroner reports.
