What to do: New Year’s Eve at South Shore Lake Tahoe

Jim Grant/Tahoe Daily Tribune

The annual closing off of Stateline for tonight’s outdoor revelry in the casino cooridor has become quite the South Tahoe tradition. But there’s much more in the works inside as well.

From clubs to family events, there’s a whole lot going on for “Blue Year’s Eve” at South Shore Lake Tahoe. Here’s a quick list:

” The Blue avenue gets bluer around Stateline on Blue Year’s Eve, particularly near the MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa, which plays host to two big New Year’s events: the Ultra Ball New Year’s Eve Celebration and the Midnight Blu New Year’s Eve celebration.

The doors of the Opal Ultra Lounge open for the former at 8 p.m., and tickets are $40 in advance or $50 at the door, with a $75 “bounce pass” to the Midnight Blu party, which begins at the same time at the Blu Nightclub, and in turn offers a bounce pass for the Ultra Ball. In addition, magician Rick Thomas wraps up five nights of shows with a 9 p.m. performance.

” Nearby at Harveys, DJ Slick D and Hard Nox play the Hard Rock Cafe from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., while Allen Havey and Mark Reedy finish off a six-night stand at The Improv.

” Harrah’s invites partygoers to ring in the New Year with style at VEX Nighclub’s New Year’s Eve party, which features a laser show, house DJs and go-go dancers. The price of admission includes champagne until midnight and party favors.

” The Hard Rock Cafe inside Harveys will have DJ Slick featuring HARDKNOX starting at 10 p.m. Tickets are $35 in advance and $50 at the door and include a champagne toast. Go to http://www.hardrocklaketahoe.tix.com

” One of two New Year’s Eve cruises departs from Zephyr Cove Resort in Nevada at 6:30 p.m. Passengers on the MS Dixie II can enjoy a sit-down dinner, champagne toast, a band, a magician and party favors. The cruise returns at 10 p.m. There also will be a cruise out of the Ski Run Marina in California: The Tahoe Queen departs at 9 p.m. and returns at 12:45 a.m. The price of the cruise includes a toast, dinner, a band, party favors, tax and a surcharge.

Farther out ” and far out ” Kirkwood Mountain Resort is holding a disco for kids from 7-10 p.m. in the Red Cliffs Day Lodge, and families might want to stay to take in the annual fireworks show and torchlight parade scheduled after dusk tonight.
