SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Service to the community is the basic tenet for two of South Lake Tahoe service organizations, Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) and the South Tahoe High School S Club.

Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra is a local women’s service organization working in the best interest of women and children in the community and was the host for Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on April 27th. By financially sponsoring the Monday Meal, the SITS organization provided the opportunity for members of the STHS S Club to participate and volunteer at the dinner which provided a free wholesome meal to vulnerable members of the community.

The STHS S Club is a youth development club which encourages the club members to provide service through volunteerism. The members of both SITS and the Soroptimist International of Lake Tahoe provide support and guidance along with the club’s mentor Anne Filce to the S Club members. In addition to participating in a Bread & Broth Monday Meal, the STHS S Club members also perform service activities which include conducting food fundraisers and volunteering at the upcoming SITS’s Mad Hatter Tea Party event on May 17th at Valhalla.

Volunteering at a Bread & Broth dinner sparked a high interest in volunteering at the dinner among the STHS S Club members. In total, ten club members, including Melissa Ahumada, Hanna Aldana, Reg Griuabra, Emy Henson, Cittally Lopez, Joshua Orega-Morel, Maite Perez, Rocky Pietrolungo (S Club President), Melany Reyes, and Emmy Sennings, volunteered to serve. Arriving at 3 p.m., the S Club members began by helping the B&B volunteers wrap utensils, set up the dessert and drink table, and pack 100 food giveaway bags filled with healthy food. Once the dinner guests arrived, they manned the serving line and dessert and drink table, and helped handout food bags, dairy products (milk/eggs/butter), meats, canned goods, breads, pastries, and various food staples.

The STHS S Club members did an outstanding job greeting the 135 dinner guests, helping where needed, and showing overall dedication to serving the evening’s attendees. Organizations such as the S Club are extremely important in exposing teens to the benefits of providing service to others and recognizing how impactful service and volunteerism is not only on those receiving service but those volunteering/serving.

Bread & Broth would like to acknowledge the outstanding service that both the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra and the STHS S Club do to promote volunteerism and service to others. Having SITs and the STHS S Club participate in a Monday Meal is always a treat for both the B&B volunteers and the dinner guests.
