Duo starts nonprofit aimed at making classical music more accessible, starting with summer concerts

LAKE TAHOE/RENO, Nev. – David H. Brock and Alex Eisenberg founded the non-profit, Higher Elevation Music, to offer classical music to a wider audience. They’re integrating the organization with Hot August Pipes, an annual summer concert series with events taking place in Lake Tahoe and Reno, Nev. through early September.

Whether it’s early classical, baroque, romantic, modern, or world premieres, Higher Elevation Music seeks to engage younger audiences with all eras of classical music by offering free admission for children.

Weekend matinees and holiday Mondays also offer more accessible times in order to welcome audiences who might not typically attend.

Although the non-profit is new, Hot August Pipes is not. An acclaimed organist, this is founder Brock’s 27th annual event and this year Brock is debuting the Higher Elevation Orchestra.

The program promises a rich tapestry of classical music that includes:

  • Handel: Organ Concerto Op. 4 No. 4
  • Langlais: Piece in Free Form (Organ & Strings)
  • Joplin: The Entertainer (Ragtime, orchestral arrangement)
  • Herbert: Serenade for Strings, Op. 12
  • Bolcom: What a Friend We Have in Jesus (Jazz-inspired organ solo)
  • Foote: Pizzicato and Adagietto from Suite for Orchestra

“We’re not just performing music—we’re creating moments of connection, discovery, and joy, “Brock says. “We invite everyone to be part of this journey.”

The organization supports local musicians in its dedication to composing, producing, and performing classical music by ensuring meaningful rehearsal times and performance opportunities.

Concert series details are below:

  • Fri., Aug. 29, 7 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Episcopal in Incline Village, Nev.

  • Sun., Aug. 31, 3 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Reno, Nev.
  • Mon., Sept. 1, 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Tahoe, Zephyr Cove, Nev.
