Letter to the Editor

Congressman Kevin Kiley wants voters to believe he’s a champion for public lands and a voice for his district, but his record tells a different story.
Just before recess, Kiley voted for the Big, Ugly Bill, a massive, corporate-backed package jammed with polluter handouts, gutting environmental protections, and paving the way for more destruction of the public lands he claims to care about. That includes language to fast-track fossil fuel and mining projects, roll back environmental review, and undermine public input. It’s a betrayal of the six national forests in his district and the millions of Californians who rely on them for clean air, water, and recreation.
This is the same Kevin Kiley who once made headlines for opposing a public lands selloff. When it counted, he voted against his constituents and sided with polluters and developers. Now, during August recess, a time traditionally reserved for town halls and hearing directly from the people he represents, he’s nowhere to be found. No public events, no open forums. That’s not representation.
Congressman Kiley can’t have it both ways. You don’t get to call yourself a Sierra champion while you sell it off. Voters are paying attention. Come November, they’ll remember who showed up for them and who showed up for corporate polluters.
