Former Saturday Night Live alum and actor Joe Piscopo was in Carson City last week shooting the pilot for the television sitcom, “Casino Boss,” at the Carson City Nugget.

Comedian Bob Zany (who has a nice role in the project playing both casino employee and comedian) talked with director Linda Chorney and got Yours Truly a bit part in a scene that takes place in the Carson Comedy Club. I get to heckle Zany from the audience, which I rarely get to do on the radio when he calls in every Tuesday for his segment, “The Zany Report.”

Finally! Stay tuned for more info on the pilot’s air date.

Kivi Rogers at The Improv

Just last week I was watching Kivi Rogers in the movie “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” (which stars both Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow). What a coincidence he’s here this week. Kivi’s also been in the movies, “What I Did For Love” and “The Amati Girls” (which stars Academy Award winners Mercedes Ruehl and Cloris Leachman).

Kivi is funny, but he also has universal appeal and, dare I say, works clean, too?

I’m not saying there won’t be some suggestive material or that the other comic works clean, but overall Kivi is a good act to see. It’s no surprise that Kivi was selected to be a member of the “Clean Guys of Comedy,” an ensemble group led by comedian Dave Coulier (from “Full House”), which toured the nation and introduced Kivi to an even wider audience.

Kivi’s appeal ranges from college students to those who have retired, in part, because he touches on family — something I believe everyone can relate to. I mean, who doesn’t have stories when it comes to their families, right?

His upbringing was a great source of material growing up the second youngest of six boys and one girl in the Pueblo Del Rio housing projects. Having to compete for his parents’ attention, not to mention having so many siblings, Kivi used humor to get an edge over the rest, which turned out to be a good training ground for what would eventually be a career in humor.

Kivi’s credits include appearing on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” nominated for “Comedian Of The Year” by the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) and making guest appearances on “The West Wing,” “Everybody Loves Raymond, “ “VIP,” “Diagnosis Murder,” “Dharma and Greg” and a host of other television sitcoms and late night appearances.

Kivi has entertained our military all over the world and here at home in addition to being one of the more sought after comedians on the college circuit. He’s at The Improv through Sunday.

The Improv at Harveys takes place Wednesdays through Sundays at 9 p.m. Learn more at http://www.harveystahoe.com.

Leslie Norris Townsend at Carson City Nugget

If you get a chance, check out comedian Leslie Norris Townsend at the Carson Nugget Comedy Club this week. She, like Kivi, works what one would call a “clean” comedian. She blends stand-up, music and includes her audience in her shows.

She’s opened for some pretty big names in the world of country that includes Dwight Yoakam, Neal McCoy and Lonestar. Some of Leslie’s creds include appearances on Comedy Central, A&E’s “An Evening at the Improv” and sketches seen on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” She was even a Grand Finalist on “Star Search.”

But Leslie did a reverse-career move leaving the bright lights of Hollywood to create a better environment for her children living on her family’s 100-year-old farm. One can only imagine the material that added to her already impressive set.
