Heavenly skiers fare well at nationals

A good performance at Junior Olympics was perhaps surpassed by the Heavenly Ski Foundation freestyle team’s results at the U.S. Freestyle Championships last weekend in Park City, Utah.

Sho Kashima finished fourth in single moguls, Jay Panther placed 10th (22.99) and Luke Palmieri came in 27th (20.48) at the senior event.

To fill the final spots for dual moguls, skiers completed a single-qualifying run where the top-16 finishers advanced to the main race. Panther finished in 17th place, one spot off, and the last guy down in qualifying was the person who nudged Panther down a spot. Kashima placed 35th.

Jimmy Roberts and Luke and Marin Palmieri all qualified for dual moguls prior to arriving in Utah but didn’t compete in the race.

Hannah Curtzwiler, who turned 13 last weekend, placed 31st in the qualifying run for dual moguls but finished 37th in singles (15.74). She beat out 15 female skiers out of a 52-person field.
