Harrah’s to host annual holiday dance production
Marcia Sarosik Dance Studio’s Lake Tahoe Shining Stars will perform “Twas the Night Before Christmas” Sunday at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.
The production, based on the classic holiday poem, made its debut in 2006. Performances will take place in the South Shore Showroom and there are two showtimes available to accommodate its growing popularity.
The dancers, who range in age from 2 1/2 to 18, will perform holiday favorites including “Jingle Bell Rock,” a jazzy rendition of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” a swinging “Jingle Bells” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” This year’s “Waltz of the Snowflakes” from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker” features Melissa Jo Marsh, who will be graduating this June, as the Snow Queen. Marsh attended Joffrey West the past two summers, and has attended ballet intensives all over the country. Angelica Rodriguez, Kristen Harnett, Shaelyn Miller and Mykala Muskovitz, who have attended multiple dance workshops, grace the stage as the Sugarplum Fairies. Young ballet angels in the “Magic Toy Shop,” a Rockettes-style kick line, contemporary, lyrical, hip-hop and tap dances to songs that follow the story are also included in the show.
Professional vocalists Bob Grant and Angela Aguirre add their special talent to the production. Dancers making their stage debut at the event include the Bijou Ballet Club and other students who are part of the Shining Stars’ outreach program. Lake Tahoe’s Shining Stars outreach offers the opportunity to local children who are in need or at risk to attend dance classes and participate in performances throughout the year.
The proceeds from this year’s productions will benefit organizations that support needy children on the South Shore.
“Our studio is committed to excellence in dance education and the arts. All the costumes for the holiday show are provided by the studio. Instead of paying a costume fee, our dancers contribute toys for Christmas Cheer,” Sarosik stated in a press release.
“Twas the Night Before Christmas” will be performed at 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets cost $14 for adult general admission and $8 for seniors and students and are available at tix.com and at marciasarosikdancers.com through Dec. 13. Tickets will be also be available at the door 30 minutes prior to each show.
