SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — An electrical fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen of a home and smoke damage throughout the rest of the house on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the fire at about 3:30 p.m. on Nottaway Drive near Pioneer Trail, Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) Public Information Officer Leona Allen said. The fire was contained within roughly 10 minutes of firefighters’ arrival.

However, by that point kitchen walls and appliances were damaged. In some areas of the kitchen, the entire outer portion of the walls was destroyed and pieces of the ceiling were visible on the floor and counters throughout the kitchen. The walls and ceiling in other parts of the house also showed visible smoke damage.

One neighbor said his dog kept barking for several minutes while the indoor fire burned. Minutes later, he saw several fire trucks and smoke in the area.

The fire was limited to the inside of the house and no damage was visible to the exterior. No other structures appeared to be threatened.

No one was home when the fire occurred, Allen said, and no injuries were reported.

It is not yet clear what the extent of the damage was, Allen said. An investigation into the cause and calculated cost of the damage is ongoing.

Personnel from the LVFPD and the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department responded to the call.

Two battalion chiefs, four fire engines and two ambulances were at the scene.
