Kudos & Kindness

To the editor:

Tahoe Gymnastic Booster Club wants to thank Longs at Bijou, Safeway at Bijou, Raley’s at Heavenly and Raley’s at the “Y” for their generous donations to our first gift wrapping fund-raiser.

Thank you, Mr. Merideth, for the use of Clothestime for our fund-raiser. The community was well served by your generosity. The enthusiasm received determined this fund-raiser a success and one we hope to repeat every Christmas holiday.

Tahoe Gymnastic Booster club and the girls and boys team say thanks again to everyone who supports the athletes of this community.

Adopt-a-family helped many

To the editor:

The South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center Adopt-a-Family for the Holidays program was a huge success thanks to the generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations within our community. It is impossible to mention everyone, since more than 45 community members brightened the lives of more than 80 women and 200 children in need.

We would like to give a special thanks to the Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club, El Dorado County Library, Ridge Eagles, Project Santa, Tahoe Seasons Resort, El Dorado County Food Bank, Toys for Tots, Elks Club, Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra and the Optimist Christmas tree lot for their continuing support.

The Women’s Center sincerely appreciates our community’s warmth and kindness in helping make this a special holiday season for women and children who have been victims of domestic violence.

Family grateful for support

To the editor:

What a wonderful community we live in. The family of Bob Riva would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support received throughout his illness.

At Bob’s services it became obvious to us how many lives he touched as a loving husband and father, local sports participant, youth coach, telephone employee, and longtime South Lake Tahoe community member. Bob loved this community and we feel so fortunate to be a part of it, also.

Again, we want to thank everyone who helped us get through this difficult time. Bob will live on in the memory of all who were fortunate enough to have know him.

Charity event raised $2,540

To the editor:

Thank you to our wonderful and caring neighbors. On Dec. 7, Freshies Restaurant and Bar hosted its third annual charity event to benefit Christmas Cheer All Year. As most of you know, Christmas Cheer is one of the only truly “grass roots” local helping agencies available to anyone who is in need (in addition to providing Christmas to those who cannot afford it.) There is not enough appreciation for Wilma, Joanne and all the volunteers who lend a hand there especially this time of year. The event at Freshies was a great success and lots of fun.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who donated their time, skills and, of course, all those great silent auction and raffle prizes. We were blessed to have Polynesian dancers from Joanne Robbins’ classes at LTCC, JJ Entertainment offered their DJ talents and played an all Hawaiian music selection, LSY Designs designed our flyers and ads. They also sponsored some photo-quality copies of the flyer. The Mountain News and the Tahoe Daily Tribune were gracious enough to run free ads, and KRLT was spotlighting our event. Silent auction prize donors included Curves for Women, Black Bear Inn, Cafe Fiore, Inn by the Lake, Blue Lake Aikido and Rippin’ Willies.

Appreciation for raffle prize donations goes out to Sierra-at-Tahoe, Four Paws Grooming, Overland Meat Co., Cantina, Nephele’s, Dog Wash of Tahoe, Sessions, Blue Angel Café, Rude Brothers, Sprouts, Chevy’s, Grassroots, Mad About Music, Off the Hook, The Cork and More, The Dory’s Oar and Tudor Pub, Alpen Sierra, Shop the World, The Orchid, Shoreline Sports and the Buttermuffin. Thanks, too, to the Freshies crew, who gave their time and donated all tips that evening.

Between donations at the door, silent auction and raffle donations and the beer and wine sales for the evening, we were able to bring $2,540 to Christmas Cheer.
